approx. 4hrs + 30mins free for coffee break (can be adapted in terms of time and interest)
The historic center of Prague stretches along both banks of the Vltava River. It is common for visitors to divide their sightseeing over two days. The two parts of the city are connected by the famous medieval Charles Bridge, decorated with Baroque statues.
On the left bank, Prague Castle dominates the skyline together with the Hradčany district, which takes its name from the castle (Hrad / a castle). Below the castle lies the picturesque Lesser Town (Malá Strana). On the right bank is the historic heart of the city, centered around Old Town Square with its famous astronomical clock. The right bank has always been the livelier and busier part of Prague.
In the 14th century, the Czech king and Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV expanded this area by founding a new district called the New Town. The name has remained to this day, even though it was “new” in the Middle Ages. It is true that during the 19th and 20th centuries the New Town was rebuilt more extensively than the rest of the historic center, which is why it offers not only historic monuments but also fine examples of Art Nouveau and avant-garde architecture.
The tour can therefore be adapted in both time and theme to suit each visitor. The most popular option consists of two four-hour tours, with an additional free half-hour break for coffee, tea, or a light snack. During this time, visitors can either walk through all four historic districts at a faster pace to gain an overall impression of the city’s size and richness, or choose a slower pace and devote one four-hour tour to each riverbank.
