New Town is situated on the right riverside in the neighborhood of The Old Town. This quarter was founded in 1348 by Charles IV as a modern city. The progressive urbanism from the medieval age met very well the requirements of the modern days.

New Town is associated with many historical events. Student demonstration took place at Národní třída on 17th November 1989. This mass protest against communist totalitarian regime led to so called Velvet Revolution – the collaps of the communist regime in Czechoslovakia.

This protest was followed by many others mainly on Wencesls Square where Vaclav Havel held a speech from famous Melantrich balcony.
