Kampa Museum was founded by Meda Mládková who with her husband Jan, living in exile, collected and supported Czech artists during the communist era. During the communism non-conformist art was banned and contacts with Western strictly forbidden. Nevertheless, original and forceful artworks were created which fascinated Western critics later. Kampa Museum represents numbers of works by abstract art pioneer Czech painter František Kupka, Expressionist and Cubist Czech sculptor Otto Gutfreund and art of the Central Europe. Jindřich Chalupecký Collection decorated the Prague Castle offices during Václav Havel presidency. Václav Havel as well as Madeleine Albright was also a member of the board of Jan and Meda Mládek Foundation.
