700th anniversary of Charles IV’ birth
Prague became the capital of the Holy Roman Empire during the reign of Charles IV, King of Bohemia (Czech lands) and Holy Roman Emperor.
Charles was a founder of many monuments and institutions such as Charles University (the oldest university in Central Europe), Charles Bridge, Gothique part of St. Vitus Cathedral at Prague Castle or big project of the extension of the Old Town simply called New Town.
On the occasion of 700th anniversary you can book a tour to Carlstejn Castle and visit a unique and richly decorated Chapel of the Holy Cross that has no analogy in concept elsewhere in the world.
This castle was founded by Charles IV as a place for safekeeping the Imperial Regalia , Czech crown jewels and holy relics. Castle is located only 30km (18miles) southwest of Prague.
